What I ate… Wednesday 28th of August 2013

Hi,

This week I ate the following… 🙂

BREAKFAST:

Two sandwiches with butter, backed ham, sour pickled cucumber, fresh cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce. A glass of milk.

LUNCH:

A bowl of fruits (apple, strawberries, blueberries) and natural yoghurt.

SECOND LUNCH:

Being in the city with a friend, we ate brown bread, backed egg with bacon and tomato. Each half of the portion you see.

SNACK:

Toasted German white bread with butter and blueberry jam.

DINNER:

“Pierogi leniwe”. These are similar to “Kopytka” which recipe you can find here.

“Pierogi leniwe” are the sweet version with curd cheese. I ate them with yoghurt, bread-crumbs in melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.

SUPPER:

Two slices fo toasted German white bread with curd cheese, yoghurt, onion and topped with tomato and pickled cucumber.

Healthy food hunter

Hi,

We all know that some healthier, organic food costs twice as much as regular, non-organic food.
That is probably a barrier for most of us, especially the ones who have less income. Wilma Waterlander in her PhD writes that a cheaper healthy food probably contributes to healthier food choices. She wrote that discounts encourage people to buy healthier food. However, discounts should be set just to fruits and vegetables. If you offer discount on all healthy products, it will just lead to higher caloric intake [1].
I agree with the author. Many times I feel really bad about the fact that healthy food is so expensive. As you know I buy organic vegetables but not all the time. If something is organic or not, in fact is not the highest priority for me. Of course, I feel much better eating something that is healthier and better to the environment but I don’t cry if I buy a normal food.

The most important for me is to deliver as much vegetables and fruits as possible. I try to eat recommended quantities of fruit and vegetables which are 200g/per day each (depending on scientific source, your age, gender, etc.).
In below picture you will notice how much I enjoy eating healthy. Beautiful, tasty, healthy fruits and vegetables for this week for two of us:) Yummy, they just look so appetising….!


Following one of the cooking groups, I found an interesting post about: “What best describes your cooking personality?” began by Meta West (Independent Cooking Instructor, Food Writer and Consultant, see more info and interesting tips at: http://cookingwithbarryandmeta.blogspot.com.
In my opinion “cooking personality”, all dishes that you prepare and consume are based on your lifestyle.
My curiousity pushed me to check out and also do online personality assessment. I clicked on the link posted by Barry and Meta and with the “My Plate, My Way” [2] interactive tool I did the test.
Do you have any doubts about my results? According to the test I am a “Health Seeker”. Well, that does not surprise for me at all. In case of doubt, scroll up and look at the picture once more:)
According to the site there are different food behaviours which depend i.e. on income, prizes, “the way we view food, what motivates us to choose one food over another or how much time we’re willing to spend preparing a meal” [2].

I encourage you to do the test. I am curious of your results:)

Lunch idea

Hi,

Hey, look at this. I mean what could be better than so great and tasty lunch at work?

FYI: do not think that I eat that little. I just split my lunches in two parts;) I can’t wait that long after my breakfast and I do not like to eat that much in the mornings. I’m not an “early bird” so I prefer to do more and eat more in the afternoons.

This time on my dish was: baguette with mozzarella and tomato. Plus strawberries…

Ingredients:

–          Baguette

–          Butter

–          Mozzarella

–          Lettuce

–          Tomato

–          Salt, pepper, basil, thyme and rosemary

–           Strawberries

Snack substitutes

Hi there,

Today I want to share with you my idea of SS – “snack substitutes”.

Instead of A eat B 😉

I was just thinking about how inane people eat unhealthy snacks. Many times we just grab things without even paying attention to what we eat and how does it really taste. People snack at school, at work, in front of TV in a pub, etc. What mostly comes “on your dish”? It is chocolate, chips, peanuts…
Well, if you are addicted to snacking, I am sure you won’t really notice what you eat. Exceptions are people who are addicted to salt and cacao 😉
Anyway, have you ever consider grabbing just few strawberries or grapes?
Mostly when you want to have emotional need to eat something, it is enough if you eat just a little bit. In fact instead of eating a row of chocolate you could eat few strawberries. It’s tasty, healthy and you don’t feel guilty afterwards. In fact, if you inanely eat something, it doesn’t matter what you eat. You won’t even notice that you eat…
So why not to test yourself and try for a week buying healthy stuff instead of trashy snacks?

Today on my snack dish were: just a few strawberries.


Remember, do not eat half kilo of strawberries because it won’t be just a snack anymore 😉

White cheese omelette with strawberries

My breakfast: White cheese omelette with strawberries

What you can wish on Sunday morning? It’s cold but sunny day…

This is the first sign that summer is coming; the view of wonderful and colourful strawberries makes me happy.

It is a perfect breakfast if you are bored with bread.

The combination of carbohydrates and proteins make it healthy and attractive dish.

Ingredients (for 1 person):

–          Homemade white cheese, ca. 100g

–          1 eeg

–          1 tbsp. spelt flour

–          1 tsp agave syrup

–          3 drops vanilla flavour

–          Strawberries

–          Yoghurt

–          Cinnamon

–          Oil for frying

Know-how:

  1. Beat eggs
  2. Add agave syrup, vanilla flavour and beat again
  3. Add spelt flour and beat again
  4. Add white cheese and crush with fork (you can optionally add raisins if you want)
  5. Fry small portions for about 2 minutes each site
  6.  Put your mini omelettes on dish and decorate with 1 tablespoon yoghurt and strawberry
  7. Season with cinnamon
