Sweets…

Hi,

Sugar addiction is one of the most common addictions. It affects not only adults but also children.

Why people eat so many sweets? Why parents feed their children with cookies, candies, cakes, soft drinks, ice creams, chocolate bars, etc.? Often it is a reward for good behaviour or just everyday habit. If parent eats sweets, kid will eat sweets as well.

There are people that ignore this problem; there are also people that try to combat their weakness.

If you grew up with sugar, it will be difficult for you to reduce it from your diet. Simply, things will not taste that good. If you grew up with little sugar, you will not need it as much as the other people. Take advantage of it and do not fall into sweets habit…:)

So what do you choose? Sugar or no sugar???

Christmas vanilla pudding dessert

Hi,

Today I want to share with you the last Christmas dish: Christmas vanilla pudding dessert.

It is super simple and looks fantastic!

Ingredients (4 cups):

– 8 whole wheat cookies

– 1 vanilla pudding (see package for additional ingredients)

– Forest fruit jam

– 1/3 butter

Know-how:

  1. Crush cookies with rolling pin.
  2. Prepare pudding according to package. Cool down and mix in a food processor with cold butter.
  3. Put in layers alternately.
  4. Top with jam.

Warm appelbol with warm vanilla sauce

Let me just shorty present the first week of December.

As you already remember from my post about Saint Nicolas’ Eve it started to snow;)

 

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday we had the most beautiful days. Everything was covered with snow.

Such cold temperature encourages me to go out. Motivated by weather conditions I went to Koffiehuis de Heerlijckheid in Nijmegen.  It’s a great place to rest and eat something delicious in a nice cosy atmosphere.

 

I decided to eat “Warm appelbol with warm vanilla sauce”.

I was really surprised with delicate and balanced taste of slightly salted cake, delicious apples and wonderful vanilla sauce. Everything was just perfect.

The last day of November- chocolate cake and skewers

The last day of November is a special day for Polish when we celebrate St. Andrew 🙂

I don’t feel like eating sweets/desserts all the time but together with a birthday of my friend I decided to bake a chocolate cake.

The day after we ate “healthy snacks”.

So simple and delicious…

 

Ingredients:

–          Olives

–          Feta

–          Mini-mozzarella

–          Mini salami

–          Paprika

–          Snack tomatoes

–          Radish

–          Grapes

–          Bread sticks

–          Homemade garlic dip

 

Know-how:

  1. Alternately thread all ingredients onto the skewers.

Memories of Spain

Hi,

Some of you may have already noticed that I like to share with you interesting dishes. Two weeks ago I was in Spain. Today I want to show you a bit of Spanish cuisine that I ate during my holiday at Costa del Maresme, in Catalonia.

Due to Spain’s maritime roots you can get really good quality seafood. Spain is not only known from that but also from Jamón Serrano, chorizo, lentils, paellas, churros and many more…

During my holiday I concentrated on 1-3-ingredient meat or seafood dishes.

Things that caught my attention were:

Jamón Serrano

Fried calamari rings

Baked octopus with potato

Sangria

Less-known sangria blanca, delicious…

Grilled chicken with tomato onion salad and toasts

Great atmosphere in a cosy restaurant in Calella

Spanish blue tiles

Not mine but… 🙂

Last but not least, yummy Oreo ice cream from Ferretti

Seasonal fruit lunch

Hi,

Before I moved to the Netherlands, I had no idea that seasonal fruits may be so precious.

In Poland, supermarkets and grocery shops are providing more seasonal products than here.

I was very happy composing this fruit bowl but still missing other seasonal fruits that I used to eat before.

The things you can buy everywhere in Poland and I miss in the Netherlands are:

Blackcurrant

Whitecurrant

Rubus (well sometimes you can find it here… in the forest:)

Raspberries could be much cheaper!!!

Yellow cherries

Cherries (sour, not sweet ones)

Fragaria (wild forest strawberries)

Blueberries (wild forest blueberries, different than American blueberries)

Red gooseberries (available just in good grocery shops)

White gooseberries (well sometimes you can find them here)

Hmm, yummy!!!

Cheer up! Eat rye wholemeal bran cereal cookies with forest fruits and ice cream…

I miss the summertime so much… It is grey, cold and windy almost every day:( To have at least a little bit of happiness and summer mood, I decided eat to dessert with seasonal fruits. It is now time for all kind of forest fruits. Tasty, delicate with great colour. As you know I like to eat healthy, that is why I decided for bran and wholemeal products. Everything what is brown, looks healthy to me:)

Are you already hungry? Try this out…

Ingredients (for 3 people):

– Kellogg’s all-bran flakes cereal

– 2tsp. sugar (you can use brown sugar or honey)

– 1tbsp. butter

– 3 full tbsp. rye wholemeal flour

– 1 egg

– Cream ice cream

– 3tbsp. American blueberries

– 3tbsp. blackberry jam

Know-how:

  1. Mix flakes, sugar, rye wholemeal flour and butter. Remember to leave your butter out of the fridge for a while so it will combine easier with other ingredients.
  2. Beat eggs until fluffy, add to above ingredients; mix.
  3. Spread mass over the baking paper and bake for half an hour in 180oC. Let it dry/cool down in the oven for another half an hour. (You can serve it warm if you want).
  4. Decorate every dish with 1 cookie, 1 ice cream ball, American blueberries, and decorate with blackberry jam. You can decorate it with warm jam. It will contrast nicely to cold ice cream.

Kitchen helper or rather first guest to eat my dessert 🙂

I tell you something… This summer is bad but thanks to this dessert I felt really cheerful.

Banana omelette

Hi,

Once in a while I want to eat something sweet… I prefer to choose healthy stuff, so everything what is homemade is always better for me.

Everyone knows how to prepare omelette. There are different recipes and this is mine.

Ingredients (for 1 person):

–          2 eggs

–          2 tbsp. milk

–          2 tbsp. flour

–          1 banana

–          Oil to fry

–          Sugar powder to top

 

Know-how:

  1. Beat eggs until fluffy.
  2. Add milk, flour to beaten eggs and mix all ingredients.
  3. Spread oil on pan, and pour egg mixture into pan. Top with sliced banana.
  4. Cook on medium heat until eggs begin to set. For the quicker result, cook under the lid.
  5. Lift up omelette and turn to other side. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until brown colour.
  6. Slide omelette onto a serving plate and top with sugar powder.

   

Let me know if you like the combination of omelette with banana.

Key Lime Pie

Hi,

The food I present is Joe’s Crab Shack specialty! A tart pie in a graham cracker crust, topped with whipped cream. Really great and reminds me of hot summer.

Ingredients:

–          5 egg yolks

–          1 can of sweetened condensed milk

–          ½ cup of “key” lime juice

–          1 ½ cups of graham crackers

–          ¼ cup of sugar

–          1/3 cup of melted butter

–          Whipped cream

Know-how:

  1. Mix in a bowl crackers and sugar. Pour in the butter and mix all ingredients. If you don’t have graham crackers, use any other crackers.
  2. Press into the pie plate and bake in ca. 180 oC for about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Cool down, preferably in the fridge, before using it.
  4. Combine the egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk and lime juice. Mix well all ingredients. Pour into the graham cracker crust. Bake in ca. 180 oC for 30 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool down.
  6. Top with whipped cream.

It’s really easy and very tasty.
